Success for Dance Works Rotterdam in St. Petersburg, Russia

Dance Works Rotterdam’s tour to St. Petersburg was very successful. A large and diverse audience and the local press were enthusiastic about their introduction to the work and vision of Dance Works Rotterdam. Through this tour, the company has confirmed the cultural ties between Rotterdam and its sister city St. Petersburg.

The tour consisted of the production ‘Human Figures/ Das Wohltemperierte Clavier’, which was performed to a full house in the Hermitage Theater in St. Petersburg as part of the Open Look Dance Festival, and an educational program for Russian dance students and professional dancers.

The combination of the performance and the educational program was a striking and successful aspect of this tour.

This foreign tour was made possible by the financial contribution from the Fund for Amateur Art and Performing Arts, and the support of the Dutch Embassy in Moscow and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in St. Petersburg.

The foreign tours

Dance Works Rotterdam can proudly announce that the foreign tours to Cyprus and Moscow were a great success.

On Wednesday 31 May, the company danced ‘Blue Dance’, ‘Four Trios’ and ‘E27SD’ as part of the 9th European Dance Festival Limassol, in the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, Cyprus. On Monday 5 June and Tuesday 6 June, the company performed the same pieces in the Pushkin Theatre in Moscow. These performances were part of the 6th Moscow International Contemporary Dance Festival.

300 people came to watch the performance in Cyprus. Ton Simons also gave an introduction and the audience could watch a public rehearsal. The Dutch Ambassador of Cyprus, Max Gevers, and the Cypriot Minister of Culture and Education were among the members of the audience.

There was an audience of 700 for the first performance in Moscow. This was exceeded on the second evening by a full house of 850 people. Ton Simons gave two interviews for Russian television and there were two press conferences. It was a very positive experience for the company.

Dance Works Rotterdam has not finished traveling yet. Four dancers from the company are going to Marseille on Saturday 1 July and Sunday 2 July to take part in the Festival de Marseille. In la Grand studio du ballet National de Marseille, Dance Works Rotterdam will be presenting ‘Little Ease’ and a duet from ‘Blue Dance’. Further information: www.festivaldemarseille.com.

The foreign tours to Cypres and Moscow have been sponsored by the "Fonds voor Amateurkunst en Podiumkunsten' and the Dutch Embassy in Cyprus and Moscow.
