Dana Caspersen - choreograaf

Dana Caspersen was born in Minneapolis, USA. She was trained as a dancer by Maggie Black and Erik Hawkins, among others. Caspersen danced for three years with the North Carolina Dance Theater and in 1988, she started working with the Frankfurt Ballet. Besides dancing, since 2005 she has also worked with William Forsythe as an actress, author and choreographer in the Forsythe Company. She is also active as a freelance choreographer. She has been commissioned to create works for Sylvie Guillem, the Korzo Theater in The Hague, Artangel in London and the Klapstuk Festival in Belgium. For this festival, she created her first full-length piece, ‘Work for three’, co-produced by Kunstencentrum Vooruit, Festival of Flanders and the Frankfurt Ballet. Other choreographic works by Caspersen include: ‘Endless House, part 1’, ‘Prelude 17’, ‘Work #1’, ‘Work #2 and ‘From a Classical Position’. Caspersen has received the following major awards: award for ‘Best Dancer’ ( Ballett International Kritiker Umfrage 1994/1995), award for ‘Best Dancer’ (Ballett International Kritiker Umfrage 1996/1997) and a ‘Bessie’ (New York Dance and Performance Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement 1999).
