Dance Works Plus
There is more to Dance Works Rotterdam than just the performances. In addition to the opportunity of taking a look at the company’s daily life, Dance Works Rotterdam also provides talks before or after the performance. These activities are always connected in some way to the current performances and can be adapted to suit the particular wishes of a group of participants, such as pupils taking the ‘CKV’ arts curriculum. Visit to rehearsals
Dancers train every day to keep their body fit and in shape, in order to be able to meet the demands of performing at top level. A normal working day for a dancer from Dance Works Rotterdam consists of a class (in classical ballet, for instance) and rehearsals for the current performances and/or for a new work. During the rehearsals, new work is created in the period leading up to a premiere, but also corrections are made to the current performances (so-called ‘cleaning’). Visitors watch the dancers working on the perfect execution of every movement, and the result of this can be seen during the performance. A look at a rehearsal, gives an impression of the intensive life of a dancer.

Choreography game

In the choreography game, the audience becomes the choreographer for an hour. Using a ‘basic package’ you determine for yourself the order, duration, movement phrase and number of dancers that you want to see on the dance floor. By combining elements of time, space, casting and music, you can easily choreograph your own piece with the complete dance company. The numerous possibilities (and impossibilities) become very apparent, providing the viewer with insight into the choreographic process. It is a unique opportunity to experience everything which surrounds the creation of a dance piece and to see how small changes in this process can have great consequences for the final result!
